Coffee Beans

At dm martinborough we use Fair Trade Organic beans and have crafted three distinct blends:

carpe dm - seize the day

This is our signature blend, which we serve at the deli. carpe dm is a rich blend with chocolate highlights to give a smooth finish. Fantastic as a latte, flat white or as an espresso. We also have a plunger version of this great blend available.

per dm - for the day

Our bespoke plunger blend made from Columbian and Papua New Guinean  beans it has a weighty body followed by a rich earthy taste. Roasted to a lighter level to reduce bitterness and bring more flavour from your plunger. Great for any time of the day!

dm perdidi - for I have lost the day

Our darker roasted espresso blend crafted from 4 different beans to give a strong complex taste but with full body. Great as a wake up coffee this blend is for the serious espresso lover.

We use fair trade organic beans sourced by Justin Purser who runs Trade Aid based in Christchurch in our blends because we care about the environment and the world we live in. The global coffee industry is in crisis. Although world consumption is growing, and the value of the coffee trade makes it the world’s third most valuable commodity after oil and (would you believe) bottled water, many of the world’s 25 million coffee growers face immense hardship. How can this be?

Trade Aid coffee beans

Trade, unfortunately, simply isn't fair. The coffee producing countries have some of the lowest levels of income and some of the lowest GDPs in the world. Many coffee growers are receiving only a fraction of the value of their coffee.

The most difficult concept for Western consumers to grasp is that growers have no real say in the price they will be paid, nor an easy alternative to growing coffee as a cash crop. In effect, they are paid just enough to prevent them from pulling out their crops and growing something else, but not enough to earn a living wage.

Do your bit for Fair Trade – Support a roaster who cares as much about where their beans come from as they do for their profit margin.
